In 2000, Ericsson and MTV unveiled LiLi, Asia’s first virtual Interactive VJ. Far from your quintessential VJ, LiLi hailed from Cyberspace. LiLi and Ericsson made a terrific combination. Moving from 1999 into a new millennium, youth was a market force so influential that it appeared to be calling the shots for the elder generation’s next move. The tastes and temperaments of young people hadmarketers, including Ericsson taking keen notice, and their technology know-howhas made teens the family’s purchasing mentors. Lili is in sync with their lifestyle and will set the cultural pace for the next millennium. Making her first appearance in mid 2000, LiLi,Asian and single, was seen sporting the futuristic ‘cybernaut’ look – cyber-chic interpreted in an ensemble of metallic pastel colours and perky platform shoes. LiLi, whose name means “pretty” in Mandarin, lived up to her name with a pretty, fresh face framed by silver ponytails and large green-blue eyes.
